The Buzoni
The Buzzoni, my latest culinary creation.
The pronunciation of "Buzoni" would typically be "buh-ZOH-nee." Each syllable is pronounced distinctly: "buh" as in "butter," "ZOH" rhymes with "go," and "nee" rhymes with "knee."

Here's a recipe for a delicious Buzoni Sandwich:

Ingredients:

For the Buzoni Spread:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sandwich:

  • 8 slices of rustic sourdough bread
  • 1 lb high-quality smoked turkey breast, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices of aged provolone cheese
  • 2 ripe avocados, thinly sliced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups arugula, washed and dried
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Olive oil, for drizzling
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Buzoni Spread:
    • In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, whole grain mustard, honey, smoked paprika, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth and well combined. Set aside.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Lay out the slices of rustic sourdough bread on a clean work surface.
    • Spread a generous amount of the Buzzoni spread on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Layer the Fillings:
    • On four slices of bread, layer the smoked turkey breast, aged provolone cheese, avocado slices, red onion slices, and arugula.
    • Drizzle a little balsamic glaze and olive oil over the arugula.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Assemble the Sandwiches:
    • Place the remaining slices of bread on top to form sandwiches.
  5. Grill the Sandwiches:
    • Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat. Drizzle a little olive oil onto the pan.
    • Carefully place the assembled sandwiches onto the grill pan or skillet.
    • Grill for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  6. Serve:
    • Remove the grilled sandwiches from the heat and let them cool slightly.
    • Slice each sandwich diagonally and serve immediately.
